The Desi Directory
A vetted list of Indian-diaspora and adjacent communities in the Bay Area, with how to actually get into each one.
This is TFF’s living directory of desi founder communities in the Bay. TFF-vouched means a TFF member attended an event or joined the community within the last 6 months — we don’t list from hearsay. Every entry has either a working link or “invite via TFF” (ping us in the WhatsApp group and we’ll connect you to a member inside). Entries we haven’t re-verified this cycle are marked [link to verify].
How to use this directory
Don’t join everything. Pick one anchor community (recurring cadence, you’ll show up weekly or monthly) and one annual conference for the big-network refresh. Then add specialist groups as your needs sharpen — fundraising, US GTM, hiring.
Jargon: GTM — go-to-market: how you sell and distribute in a new market. Several groups below exist specifically for the India→US GTM transition.
Founder communities
TiE Silicon Valley
The anchor institution of the Indian-origin founder network in the Valley since 1992. Mentoring, angel group, member events.

SaaSBoomi US–India
Pay-it-forward community of India-origin SaaS/AI founders. Runs the US Caravan, growth retreats, and US GTM programs; ~25–30 India founders cycle through the Bay monthly.

Informal startup meetups, mixers, and demo days; strong India-US bridge, low-pressure format. Running events since 2009 across 25+ cities.

South Park Commons
Community for technologists in the “-1 to 0” exploration phase. Two paths: Member Residency (rolling applications, ~6-month residency) or Founder Fellowship (funded, $1M).

The intro message template
When you join a new group, don’t lurk and don’t pitch. Post this within 48 hours:
Hi all — I’m [name], just moved from [city] to [SF neighborhood]. Building [one line, plain English] at [company]. Before this: [one credibility line]. Happy to help with [specific thing you’re genuinely good at — e.g., India GTM, hiring in Bangalore, LLM evals]. Would love recommendations for [one specific ask — a meetup, a dentist, anything small]. Chai’s on me if you’re near [neighborhood].
Offer before ask, one small ask, and a reason for someone to reply. It works.

- ☐ Pick your anchor community from the table and start the join process today
- ☐ Register interest for the next TiEcon (or set a reminder for registration opening)
- ☐ RSVP to the next eChai SF meetup — it’s the lowest-friction first event
- ☐ If you’re pre-idea or between ideas, start a South Park Commons application
- ☐ Post the intro template in the TFF WhatsApp group and ask for one “invite via TFF” connect
Nobody tells you
- TiEcon registration doubles as a TiE membership purchase for new members — if you’re going to the conference anyway, the membership is effectively bundled.
- SaaSBoomi estimates 25–30 India SaaS founders are in the Bay in any given month — the India→US founder corridor is a standing community, not an occasional visit.
- The selective groups (FUNDA, Indiaspora) respond far better to a member referral than a cold application — which is exactly what “invite via TFF” is for.
