Founder Ecosystem part 1 - Founders’ Community
Thriving

Landing in SF can feel isolating if you don’t have a network. This page gives you starting points to find your tribe:

Source: Most of these are culled and recommended in Starter Guide to SF for Founders (see the “Communities & Events” and “Neighborhoods” sections). These guides encourage plugging in early so you don’t waste months “figuring out who the connectors are”—use these to instantly break isolation.
2. Where to Actually Meet Founders IRL
Recurring events and communities (shoutout direct from Starter Guide):
Founders Brew: Chilled, no-agenda Sunday meetups with startup founders.
Founders Common: Early-stage “third space” for entrepreneurship.
Pitch & Run Fridays: Casual runs combining wellness and founder/angel/VC pitching.
Sunday in SF: Open co-working club (join to bounce ideas/client stories).
Homebrew Club: Member-driven, always-on co-working for founders and hackers.
Brex Flex Clubs: Various clubs powered by Brex for social and networking.
Product Folks / Design Buddies / ML Ops Community: Sector-specific peer groups for PMs, designers, ML, AI.
Desi-leaning and Immigrant Circles:
Bay Area Desi Founders (WhatsApp): As above, self-organizing meetups every 1-2 months (see Facebook & WhatsApp).
South Asian Product + Tech Meetups: Look for event posts on SF Indian Founders+Builders and Facebook.
Women in Product/Tech SF: WhatsApp & in-person brunches, hackathon groups.
All directly listed or called out with details in guides—see “Communities & Events” in Starter Guide to SF.
3. How to Get Plugged into Desi Founder Circles
Step 1: Join the above WhatsApp/Facebook spaces, and DM admins for latest events.
Step 2: Attend founders-only and identity-based professional events (e.g., AGI House hackathons, Product Folks, or Women in Tech).
Step 3: Offer value (job posting, tech stack help, beta feedback, domain knowledge).
Step 4: For housing and roommates, use Desi Roommates, SF Housing, and Bay Area Desi Startups as overlap group for renting and “moving in” tips.
4. Fresh, lesser-known Bay Area founder/Desi/immigrant community resources and event series
🌶️ Bay Area Desi Friends (BADF) [New in 2024–25]
Platform: Meetup + WhatsApp (link on the Meetup group—see link below, DM organizers for access)
Who it helps: Indian (and open South Asian) professionals, recent immigrant founders, early-career techies
What makes it unique: Not just startup networking—these are social meetups (food crawls, karaoke, impromptu gedis, dance, poetry). The group is intentionally casual, organizer-led, and ideal for breaking isolation with a “Desi BFFs” lens. They fill the “fun + friend-making” gap for immigrant founders often missed by business-first events.

💬 Impact Hustlers SF Bay [Underground Impact-Startup Community]
Platform: WhatsApp + invite-only “Off the Record” IRL events
Who it helps: Social-impact startup founders, sustainability/health/fintech activists, those open to mentoring and peer-support
Why join: They offer low-ego pitch sessions, direct mentorship, and connections to founder fellowships specifically for mission-driven ventures (think: less funding schmooze, more “real stories”). Access to exclusive pitch opportunities.
How to join: Apply for access/event invite at https://www.impacthustlers.com/chapters/san-francisco-bay-area
🏏 eChai Palo Alto – Global Demo Days
Platform: WhatsApp, IRL rotating “Startup Touchdown Dinners,” periodic pop-up demo nights in Palo Alto and SF
Who it helps: Founders with India/Asia roots scaling to Bay Area, especially those wanting cross-border runs (IN–US fundraise, GTM tips, strategic networking)
Events: Demo days are unique for hands-on pitching to community (not VCs), hackathon + cricket nights; dinners for peer-peer strategy over food.
Entry: All open; join at https://echai.ventures
🚀 Y Combinator “Community Startups” Directory (2025 Batch)
What it is: Not a whitelisted event, but a directory of the newest, most collaborative founder-run Y Combinator portfolio communities. Great for finding invite-only Telegram chats, online study/practice groups, or niche demo events.
Finder: Recently added a Bay Area-specific filter for both portfolio company events and founder-run interest groups. Good for connecting outside Demo Day or YC retro.

💼 Bay Area Investing in India Group
Platform: In-person and Meetup group, mostly seasoned Indian Bay area professionals/founders with investment interest in India tech/startup/real estate
Unique angle: Regular sessions for “Syndicate 101”, India-focussed pitch nights, group investing, and knowledge sharing. Small-scale, informal, gated by Meetup RSVP.

🌍 Indiaspora Forum For Good
Who: Top Indian/Desi diaspora, including founders, VCs, global CXOs, and social leaders.
Format: Annual three-day mega-events and periodic virtual meetups for knowledge, mentorship, and high-value introductions outside the day-to-day hustle.
Entry: Major annual event is open via pre-registration (typically in Feb/March); small working circles year-round.
